Node to building / in-building distribution / subscriber drop

CATV & Broadcast Transmission

CATV is a 75Ω system with three segments: node-to-building trunk, in-building distribution, and the subscriber drop. QR series aluminum tube cable serves the trunk with low loss and strong shielding; RG6 or SYWV-75-5 handles the drop, where flexibility, cost and installation speed matter most. Foaming ratio drives attenuation and shield construction drives immunity — compare those two before comparing model names.

01 — Chain

How the link is put together

① Optical node

Optical to RF conversion; everything downstream is a 75Ω coaxial network.

② Trunk

QR series aluminum tube cable — a solid aluminum outer conductor gives low loss and does not degrade like a loose braid.

③ In-building distribution

Taps and splitters with RG11 or RG6; watch the cumulative return loss at every stage.

④ Subscriber drop

Tri-shield RG6 or SYWV-75-5 in conduit, with a bend radius of at least 5× the outer diameter.

04 — FAQ

Questions we get asked

What is the difference between RG6 and SYWV-75-5?

Both are 75Ω with a roughly 7 mm outer diameter; the difference is construction and foaming. RG6 usually uses tri-shield (braid plus foil) for higher shielding in noisy buildings, while SYWV-75-5 is simpler and cheaper, which pays off on short video and distribution runs.

Can the trunk run above 1 GHz?

Yes. The aluminum tube construction of the QR series has a cutoff frequency well above 1 GHz, with variants for 1.2 and 1.8 GHz; braided cables lose ground faster above 1 GHz and are not recommended for long trunks.

Can you supply custom drum lengths and connectors?

Yes. Standard drums are 100, 200 and 500 m, and project lengths can be cut to order. Assemblies can be pre-fitted with F-type or 5/8" connectors, crimped in the factory and coiled for shipment.
